Emmeline, otherwise known as Effie during her funk days, credits Strictly Funk as "revolutionizing" her life (Get the revolution started!). Effie had to try to work up the nerve to tryout, but had incredible support from her freshman hall (including future funkmate Mr. Du). The four years of practices and performances that followed gave her confidence, opened her mind artistically, taught her how to work with all kinds of people, and most importantly--friendships that would last a lifetime. (I love you guys!!!) After receiving her J.D. from Harvard Law, she moved back to her favorite city--PHILLY-- and is currently a practicing attorney.

I was born overseas in Malaysia but was raised in Portland, Oregon. I owe my Funk experience entirely to Ms. Effie Barton who basically forced me to try-out my sophomore year and I'm so glad she did because Strictly Funk was my fondest college memory. Besides the fun of performing to packed theatres and clubs, the best thing about Funk was the people in it. I actually miss the late night practices and hell weeks. I graduate with my BS in Nursing and returned to Penn for my Masters in 2005. I currently live in San Francisco and work at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.

Straight outta the dirty south in North Carolina, Emily finally quenched her thirst for city life when she arrived in Philly to study Communications and Fine Arts at UPenn. But when she was lucky enough to join Strictly Funk, her life truly changed. Dancing with Funk and all its amazing and inspiring members was the highlight of her time in Philly. Aside from learning how to truly shake her booty, she made lifelong friends and will hold all her wild and crazy Funk memories dear. Emily went on to dance with Culture Shock New York and now lives in NYC working in television.
