Dominique Elden
Strictly MIAMI
Dominique was too long a name for Funk to remember, so we just call her Domi. This former ballet-only girl has enjoyed being "funkified" over the last 3 years, even though the ballerina in her still comes out occasionally. An international relations major, she hopes to one day attend law school but for now she'll get plenty of practice as chair of the craziest (but sickest) group on campus. She wishes much love to her Funk family and is looking forward to an amazing semester.
Li Yin
Strictly SEXY
Orginally from Bejing/New York, this big city girl's sexy choreography has been inspired by anything from the Ugly Duckling, Doctors and Nurses, and even Lollipops. While she is in rehearsals, she can often be found mesmerized by her own reflection in the mirror, blowing kisses, winding down and making obscene comments.. But don't let the ditzy facade fool you, she is currently finishing up a dual degree in Finance and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. After 7 semesters of Funk, she'll be rocking the dance floor with Funk for this very last semester!
Keith Mangam
Strictly FIERCE
Straight out of South West Illadelphia, Keith is a homegrown philly boy. Probably best known for his uncanny ability to channel the spirit of all of the video-hoes we all love to stare at, he can usually be found shaking his booty to any beat he can find. Keith has developed a love for hot hip hop and the sexier styles of west coast jazz funk. His most recent endeavors include trying to immerse himself in some of the jazz that the Funk girls do oh so well. Overall the boy is in love with Funk and can't wait till the next practice!
Caroline Phillips
Strictly CRICKET
Caroline Phillips, also known as Cricket, a senior in Funk hails from the land of suburbia, Connecticut. She started dancing modern and jazz in middle school and high school. When coming to Penn she fell in love with hip hop after seeing Strictly Funk. Since joining Funk she has explored the roles of a Stripper in 365, a member of a future sterile society looking back through history in A Brave New Funk, and this upcoming semester you'll see her as Tweedle Dum in Alice in Funkland. While pursing a law career she will be so sad that she most likely won't get to dance, but couldn't be more thankful for her Funk experience and more importantly her Funk family!
Jason Easter
Strictly
Born and bred in The Lou (St. Louis) J is a 9 year hip hop vet from back in the day. His affinity for design has landed him right here at Penn in the Graduate Architecture program. However, when he is not posted up in Meyerson Hall you can find him on the dance floor handling it. Pop it, lock it, break it then smooth it on out. Get it right son, you’ll know it when you see it. Battle if you want. Get served J-sunny side up, hold the salt (it causes high blood pressure).
Tara Nicolas
Strictly FOOLISH
Coming from DC, this little Haitian Diva is now in her last semester of Funk. After almost four phenomenal years she has been completely fuNKtiFiEd and can't bear the thought of doing anything other than dance after graduation. So…if all goes well, come May, she'll be pursuing a Modern Dance career!!!??! But until then you can find her wearing neon bright colors and taking full advantage of her last semester.
Mariko Tokuno [2010]
Mariko joins Funk from fall 2007 all the way from Japan. She started modern dance in Japan when she was 9 and has been dancing since then. She's an exchange student in Penn for a year. Despite her start with modern jazzy dance, she now loves to do and is learning hip-hop, locking, house dance, and popping. Although it's only one year, she's spending great great time with funk in Penn!!
